Type B: Courtship in
Lehmannia valentiana can also occur between two slugs that did not engage in the original precourtship together. That is, a couple began courtship (trail following) but one partner stopped and started to pursue another slug. To illustrate what I mean, here are a few photos of Couple 9:

Then I realized that there was a third slug following the trail of the second. |

The first follower turned off, leaving the second to follow the leader. |

But that slug decided not to pursue the leader either and turned off in the same direction as the first follower. |

Then precourtship began anew between the two followers, as they investigated each other with their cephalic tentacles. |

One slug became the leader, and trail following commenced, but in an abbreviated form, for the journey lasted only a few inches up and around the side of the railing post. |
As you can see, from the beginning of precourtship between the two followers, the process followed the same pattern as Type A.
