Two Successful Births - Part 1

Days after finding that one of the baby slugs (Lehmannia valentiana) in my experimental tub had hatched prematurely, I discovered with delight that not one, but two had hatched successfully! Compare these photos to the ones of Clutches #9 &10.

Baby Slug #1 (from either Clutch #4 or 5):
You can see he's still somewhat attached to his egg by a clear, mucus-like substance, perhaps the contents of the egg. It's interesting that the first marking this species has is the black lyre-shape on their mantles. Also, you can see the slug's tiny eye-spots.

Enough sitting around by the egg--it's time to explore!
