Infected Slugs: Case #6

Continuing with our series on parasitism in slugs, here is another case I came across...You can see that this slug (Lehmannia valentiana) not only has an obvious parasitic growth on the end of its tail, but its mantle is somewhat misshapen, leaving the neck exposed, and, most significantly, it cannot seem to extend its left cephalic tentacle. It's unclear whether the latter problem is due to the infection or was present prior to the entrance of the parasites into the slug's body. Also, you see that the slug is leaving the customary thick slime trail.
