Sleet & Slugs

Well, it's sleeting in Greenville, South Carolina! Classes were cancelled today for public schools and private, including colleges. As I say in the video, this is the first true winter storm we've had in 2013. The blanket of white over our neighborhood is growing, and our dogs come in with flecks of ice on their fur. It's getting slippery too. At the end of the video you'll hear my mom tell me that my dad's coming home from work early. (Which is awesome, by the way!)

You know me: I wanted to see if there were any slugs out today. I was surprised to find some Marsh Slugs (Deroceras laeve), and even a Three-band Slug (Lehmannia valentiana) braving the winter weather under the bricks and stepping-stones. Most of their fellows, however, were nowhere to be found: no doubt snuggled in some ice-free hideaway :)

Of course, my stuffed slug Seymour was not about to give up his warm bed, even to commiserate with his comrades out in the cold...
