What Happened to the Eggs?

In my last post I told you about finding a Marsh Slug (Deroceras laeve) sitting next to the string of eggs it had just laid. Well, it's been two days since I found those eggs and when I looked for them today, I only found one! Could the rain have washed the others away? Or might a predator have eaten them? I'm baffled and disappointed. Hopefully this little guy will hatch.

It appears there are the remains of the eggs that were on either side of this one, as though the link has been torn, leaving this single egg behind.
Taken with the flash.
