Declaration of War

The kudzu bugs have overstayed their welcome. They must go, one way or another. It's as simple as that.

I started out with some botanical kitchen insect spray, which was somewhat effective. Then I upgraded to wasp & hornet spray, which dispersed their clusters and made them either drop down off the vine or fly into the air. Within about half an hour, I'd estimate, many were dead.

But the "devil bugs" don't go down easy. They fly directly at me, clinging to my clothes & skin & hair, hoping to drive me mad. And I did go mad temporarily, running around and swatting them. A persistent yellow jacket didn't help matters either. But I came back and stood my ground.

Tonight I'll collect the bodies. Round 2 tomorrow. Kudzu bugs, beware!

Note: when you crush a kudzu bug, it exudes not only a repugnant smell, but a green and orange-red substance.
