Last fall I photographed a mating pair of March Flies (family Bibionidae) on our white bench in the back yard. Well, last week I found another couple mating on a rhododendron leaf. Interestingly, the female had a reddish brown thorax, while the male had a black one. The sexes can be easily recognized by the female's small head and large body, and the male's enormous eyes and small body.
