Spider Burglary: The Perils of Sharing a Web

Imagine you're a House Spider (Parasteatoda tepidariorum). You've just snagged a delicious Crane Fly (family Tipulidae). You chase off your web-mate and hurry to bite the fly, which is a task in and of itself.

Fangs out...
Attack!

But then, a couple of small flies get caught in your web. You must go bite them too. Meanwhile your web-mate checks to see that you're occupied and proceeds to haul in that prized Crane Fly for herself!

When you confront your web-mate, she gets belligerent! So you must resign yourself to the reality that you're never getting that Crane Fly back...

"Thief!"
She attaches a silk line to the fly to drag it over to her place.

The next day, there's not much left of your stolen prey.
